Nathan Fletcher (b. 1992) is a composer based in greater New York. In January 2018, his 20‐minute chamber opera, A Bridge for Three, written with librettist Megan Cohen and commissioned by the Washington National Opera for its American Opera Initiative Festival, premiered at the Kennedy Center; its score has been described as "melodious [and] neo-Romantic” (Anne Midgette, The Washington Post) and "gorgeous" (Alan Savada, Opera-L).

Nathan's short film opera collaborations with writer/director Adam Taylor have amassed thousands of views on YouTube and received numerous film festival selections and accolades. Someone Like Me (L'opera di Facebook) has been described as a “must-see” (Jenna Simeonov, Schmopera) and “...amazing... Charming, dirty, irreverent, and a ton of fun” (Peter Szep, co-founder, New York Opera Alliance), took home the Audience Favorite and Judges’ Award prizes at the July 2018 Iron Mule Short Comedy Film Festival in Brooklyn, and won Best Musical at the 2018 Orlando Film Festival. Their latest opera film, Rumspringawakening, for which Nathan both composed the music and conducted the scoring session, was released online in April 2019.

For his orchestral song cycle on poems by Edna Saint Vincent Millay (premiered in 2017 by soprano Maria Eleni Zollo and the Mannes Orchestra), Nathan received an Honorable Mention in the 2017 ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Awards, having been a finalist in 2015 and 2016. Nathan is a member of ASCAP.

Nathan’s compositions have been performed around the country at venues and events such as Opera America’s National Opera Center in New York, the New York Festival of Song’s 2016 NYFOS Next Festival, The Bushnell in Hartford, the American Choral Directors Association’s (ACDA) National Symposium on American Choral Music in Washington, D.C., and the 2015 ACDA National Conference in Salt Lake City. His incidental score for The Picture of Dorian Gray, presented in May 2017 at the University of Oxford’s Michael Pilch Studio Theatre in the United Kingdom, was praised by Katie Stanton of The Oxford Student as “haunting... [and] genuinely moving throughout.”

Choral singing has been a formative influence on Nathan’s musical life, and he maintains an active career as an ensemble singer. Currently a tenor in the chamber choir at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York, he sang as a treble from 2002 to 2006 two blocks south at Saint Thomas Church, graduating from its Choir School in 2007. He returned to Saint Thomas from 2017 to 2019 as a Gentleman of the Choir. He has sung at numerous churches around New York and Connecticut, and has also appeared with Boston‐based early music group, Ensemble Origo. In his 2018 debut with the Grammy-nominated Clarion Choir, Nathan joined a chorus of monks in an extravagant performance with pop superstar Madonna at the Met Gala. Nathan is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, having been a finalist in its 2014 Brock Student Composition Competition.

Nathan received his B.M. summa cum laude from the University of Connecticut in 2015, studying with Kenneth Fuchs, and his M.M. from Mannes (The New School) in 2017, studying with Lowell Liebermann. Nathan holds a Hartt Fellowship at the University of Hartford, where he teaches first-year undergraduate composition lessons and is working towards his Doctor of Musical Arts degree.
