A lyrical arrangement of Burt Bacharach and Hal David's classic song, "Alfie," for string quartet, brass quartet and piano; i.e., a minimum of nine players. Scoring is flexible; see notes below.
---Optional parts are included for tuba and double bass
---Clarinets in B-flat may be used in place of either or both of the trumpets
---If available, a larger string section may be used; this may be helpful for balance against the brass/winds, and will increase the lushness of the sound
---This arrangement may be performed with or without conductor; the pianist or concertmaster may also take charge of ensemble coordination as needed
Premiered at vdM Recital Hall, Storrs, CT in May 2015 by Nathan Fletcher (piano), Matt Beland (violin), Brian Roach (violin), Spencer Morgan (viola), Bronwyn Reeve (cello), Patrick Leclair (trumpet), Russel Allyn (trumpet), Julien Monick (horn) and Samuel Hausman (trombone).
